Demons

1985 horror movie

Rating: 11/20

Plot: Demon possession ruins a movie experience for annoying kids.

This is un film de Lamberto Bava, the son of the more talented Mario Bava. As far as horror movies that are essentially zombie movies with the zombies replaced with demons are concerned, this isn't too bad. There's plenty of gore--pus-sprouting, decapitation, copious amounts of goo. The plot doesn't make a heck of a lot of sense, but when your climax involves a guy riding a motorcycle around a movie theater and slicing up monsters, what kind of imbecile is going to care about something like plot or character development or coherence?

I do like movies that have a single setting. This is bookended by scenes in other settings, but the bulk of the movie takes place in the movie theater. On the one hand, it makes the whole thing feel really cheap, but there's also a certain claustrophobia that the trick invites.

This isn't a movie I'll likely ever think about seeing again, and I doubt I pick up any of the 40+ sequels, but it wasn't a bad way to spend an hour and a half around Halloween which is when I watched this.
