One False Move

1992 crime movie

Rating: 15/20

Plot: Three criminals rob some people of money and drugs and then head to a small town where a sheriff waits for his time to shine.

Nice ponytail, Billy Bob.

This is as likable as Bill Paxton ever was, but it was hard to like any of the other characters in this movie. I definitely didn't like the trio of criminals, odd since they're the types of characters I might enjoy most in a movie like this, a Coen-esque oddball crime caper. But their first scenes right at the beginning are so nasty, and the characters never really let up. If that nastiness wasn't as realistically portrayed, I might have liked them a bit more.

The random harmonica guy at the bait shop makes up for that whippoorwill foreshadowing, something that had me rolling my eyes.

A bit of humor mixed in with all this no-nonsense violence and a surprising emotional punch or two make this one worth seeing. But really, it's all about Billy Bob Thornton's ponytail.
