The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp

1943 war movie

Rating: 16/20

Plot: Clive Candy has a military career.

This is a propaganda film disguised as a moving look at lifelong friendship and unrequited love. Actually, it's not even disguised unless you're the type of person fooled by a faux beard made out of a teddy bear.

I might have respected this movie even more if I were British. It's odd to watch a movie and not feel like I have enough context even though everything's in English and all the characters are pasty white people.

Googling the Colonel Blimp comic this was inspired by, I was amazed that anything halfway entertaining could have been based on that.

Roger Livesey is really good here. They did a good job taking this actor through forty years of a guy's life.

This movie is in color.
