Plot: Giant monsters are threatening all life on earth. Pairs of humans maneuver giant robots to battle them.
I'm going to need somebody to explain to me how a movie about giant robots fighting giants monsters ended up this boring. Seems like you had all the ingredients needed to make a big dumb action movie guaranteed to entertain. Giant monsters? Check. Giant robot-lookin' things? Check. But then they added a bunch of other ingredients--a dead brother, a love interest (I think--I dozed off more than a few times), some robot driver pissing contests, unnecessary science--as some attempt to say, "See, this is more than just giant monsters fighting giant robots. This is a movie with real story and real characters in that real story." But all that managed to do was make the whole thing about twice as long as it needed to be. It all looked impressive enough, the special effects pretty dazzling, the whole thing grander than grand. Unfortunately, it just felt so bland and lifeless.
