Before Sunset

2004 sequel

Rating: 16/20 (Jen: Refuses to rate, but she did not like the movie.)

Plot: Nine years after their first encounter, Jesse and Celine meet in France while the former is finishing up a book tour. They catch up and take a boat ride.

I really thought my wife would enjoy these movies, but she was lukewarm after the first one and actually hated the sequels because she didn't like the characters. She doesn't like Ethan Hawke anyway.

I love how naturally this unfolds. You know it's written, and there's this fairy tale quality to both encounters, yet you can't help believing in these two characters and this relationship. This differs its predecessor a bit because it's one continuous chunk of time, an 80 minute slice of these characters' lives. That might be why it actually flows a little better than Before Sunrise although I do miss the asides from that movie with interactions with other characters. However, that movie doesn't have this perfectly delivered line about catching a plane that makes me swoon just thinking about it.
