Bad Movie Club: Hell Comes to Frogtown

1988 sci-fi comedy

Bad Movie Rating: 2/5 (Ratboy: 2/5; Josh: 2/5; Johnny: 4/5; Fred: 2/5; Libby: no rating; Jeremy: no rating; Ozzy: became ill and didn't finish)

Rating: 8/20

Plot: A woman named Spangle takes a potent ex-wrestler named Sam Hell to a town of toadish mutants in order to rescue some fertile women and help save the human race.

Here's an example of a movie that had the potential to both be much better or much worse than it was. Since it's more in the middle of those, it's really not as entertaining as it should be. Women are in various stages of undress, the frog masks are kind of cool, and Roddy Piper gives his usual enthusiastic performance. It's got your typical trashy 80's vibe although I wish it was either a little more gratuitously violent or a little more pervy. Sandahl Bergman, who looks like a librarian more than a fantasy movie sex goddess, tries her best to keep up with Piper but seems uncomfortable during a lot of this. And there's growly William Smith for the second week in a row, this time playing somebody named Count Sodom. And Rory "Motel Hell" Calhoun plays the character who might be the most interesting although we're definitely grading on a curve there. You have to get through a lot of scenes of Roddy Piper's chastity pouch and a pink car driving through an apocalyptic desert before you even get a glimpse of a frog, and when that finally happens, it's a little underwhelming.
