Plot: Alan Conway, a man who knows seemingly nothing about reclusive director Stanley Kubrick (even which movies he directed as one scene indicates) or looks remotely like him, tricks people into thinking he is Stanley Kubrick, successfully getting them to give him money, buy him drinks and cigarettes, or have sex with him. Based on a true story.
This was humorous and it was a lot of fun watching Malkovich chew up scene after scene. His performance really is exciting to watch--he contorts, his face dances, he switches from accent to accent, the comedic timing is great. The frequently obnoxious overacting just felt right for this role. Not sure about the pay-off; at times, this seemed like a 90-minute meandering joke. Lots of musical and visual references to Kubrick's films, especially A Clockwork Orange, but that sort of comes across as a bit too much.
Note: Reference to Luis Bunuel--there's a rock band in the movie called Exterminating Angels. Conway rides in their colorful van, and they buy him drinks and fags. Here I am impersonating myself (unsuccessfully):
