Ray Dennis Steckler Fest: Blood Shack

1971 horror travesty

Rating: 3/20 (Might be a 4/5 on the Bad Movie Scale though)

Plot: A woman inherits some desert property that includes a cabin that is haunted by a monster called The Chooper.

Stay through the end credits so that you can hear Ron Haydock sing a little song about The Chooper. The Chooper, because that's actually what the thing is called. Look how menacing this guy is!

You have to hand it to Steckler (or Wolfgang Schmidt as he's calling himself here). The guy knows how to keep you guessing, probably because not even he hand any idea how this movie was going to end.

The Chooper (Blogspot is telling me that's not a word) is played by Steckler-regular Ron Haydock, but it's Jason Wayne who steals the show as a farmhand/shovel-virtuoso named Daniel. He's perpetually shirtless, always a plus, and that man sure can deliver a fucking line. It's brilliant stuff, and I'm saddened to learn that it's his only performance.

Man, say what you want about Steckler, but that's a pretty cool-looking shot right there.

Linda and Laura Steckler play random neighbor children who are just asking to get chooped. Those performances are about as bad as you'd expect. Those characters sure know how to create their own fun with nothing more than a chair though.

This was seemingly made without a script, and it really shows. My favorite thing about it is that Steckler didn't have a movie long enough to release as a full-length feature and decided to use all this rodeo stock footage to pad the length by ten minutes. Most of it seems to be from some rodeo for children.
