1999 horror drama

Plot: A widower is talked into holding fake auditions for a movie role in order to find a new wife. The guy becomes enamored with one woman, and they form a relationship that doesn't ultimately work out very well.
Ah, that tricky Miike. He lulls you to sleep with a story and characters that you don't really care about before delivering a climactic sequence that makes everything in Misery look like child's play.
Another depressing movie. In writing this weekend about the last 35 or so movies that I've watched, it seems I've been watching a lot of dark stuff like this. Combined with the Trump election, it's no wonder I'm depressed all the time.
